In the slow unravelling of this parched world, the exiled people, in concert with Hezra, a foreigner, and his desperate attempts to provide for his village, will find themselves fighting just to continue on. These are not easy heroes, but flawed and compelling witnesses to a society's unraveling. The Lepers Poem is less concerned with grand pronouncements than with the quiet, agonising work of survival, and the difficult choices made in the long shadow of despair.
